Pumpkin painting is one of my favorite ways to welcome fall—and it’s even better when shared with family, friends, or a hot cup of coffee. Whether you’re creating a statement piece for your porch or just enjoying a creative moment, painting a faux pumpkin is a great way to make your art last for years.

🍂 What You’ll Need:
Faux Pumpkin – I grabbed mine on sale at Kroger. It’s lightweight, reusable, and perfect for painting.
Acrylic Paints – Choose your favorite floral-inspired colors.
Paint Brushes – A few sizes help for layering and details.
Paint Palette – A paper plate works perfectly in a pinch.
Coffee – Optional… but highly recommended. ☕
🌼 Let’s Paint!

1. Start with blocked shapes – Brush on a few abstract flowers using basic colors. Think loose, not perfect!
2. Layer the magic – Once your base shapes are dry, add more shades and tones to create depth and dimension.
3. Highlight with white – Use a small brush and a touch of white paint to make those petals pop!
4. Add words if you’d like – Freehand lettering or a stencil can give it a personalized touch.
5. Sip your coffee – You’ve earned it.

From Faux to Farmhouse: Try It on Wood

If you’re loving the look of painted floral pumpkins, try taking it a step further with a wooden pumpkin cutout! Wooden pumpkins are a great alternative for those who prefer a rustic touch or want something sturdier for porch decor or wall displays. The smooth surface makes painting even easier, and the final result feels like a charming piece of fall art. You can use the same floral painting technique—blocking in soft shapes, layering on color, and adding white highlights to give your flowers dimension. Whether you keep it simple or add lettering and embellishments, a painted wooden pumpkin is a beautiful way to bring handmade warmth to your autumn decorating.
🎨 Artist Tip:
Got leftover paint? Don’t toss it! Cover your palette tightly and pop it in the freezer. When you’re ready to paint again, just add a little water to your brush and you’re back in business.
