Coast to Country

This week, I’ve been prepping for a special women’s gathering, where we’ll spend the evening journaling together. Our host wanted to incorporate journaling, and I thought a junk journal would be the perfect way to embrace creativity, reflection, and the beauty of imperfection.

To make these journals extra special, I dyed the pages pink using prickly pear juice from my own cactus. After soaking them in the vibrant color, I dried them on low in the oven, which gave the pages a lovely crinkled texture—soft yet weathered, just like the stories we carry. Each page is unique, with some darker spots and uneven edges, but that’s what makes them beautiful.

A junk journal is a perfect representation of life—it isn’t perfect, but you can make the best of it. The little tears, folds, and stains aren’t flaws; they’re part of the story. To add to that theme, I’ve gathered caterpillar and butterfly stickers for us to glue into the pages, a reminder that growth and transformation take time.

I’m encouraging everyone to bring any spare scrapbook supplies—old paper scraps, stickers, washi tape, dried flowers, or anything that speaks to them to share with the group. We’ll share, create, and fill our journals with memories, thoughts, and dreams.

DIY Bookmark!

Add a personal touch to your journal with a DIY fabric bookmark! Simply take a strip of scrap fabric and thread it through the wire spiral at the spine of your notebook. Once it’s secure, tie beads onto both ends for a decorative touch. To use it, fold the fabric over your pages, letting the beaded ends dangle as a charming placeholder. It’s an easy, creative way to repurpose fabric scraps while keeping your place in style!

There’s something special about crafting with others, letting our hands work while our minds wander. I can’t wait to see the unique pages that come to life during our evening of journaling.
